It’s interesting the things that are happening around us that we may not always be aware of in the absence of a robust 4th estate when factual reporting takes a backseat to partisan rhetoric and politics.

The Callide coal-fired power station is a state government-owned entity and has long been the subject of controversy. The failure of safety practices was for the most part one of the mitigating factors in the 2021 explosion that resulted in a unit at the power station, near Biloela, being taken offline.

‘A damning draft report into the engineering factors that led to a catastrophic explosion at the Callide C power station has found its state-owned operator CS Energy failed to "value and implement effective safety practices" at the Central Queensland facility’

So, it should come as no surprise that the Callide coal-fired power station has once again been forced offline by a serious safety incident recently that has been described as an explosion by workers.

This is particularly concerning considering the QLD LNP are jettisoning the transition targets- and will allow the Callide power station to remain functional - if you could call it that - for another three years past its closure date.

In my opinion, we are forgoing in QLD the opportunity to expand our renewable targets and renewable energy sources - because the QLD LNP are beholden to the fossil fuel industry and Queensland’s renewable future has been vandalised in favour of propping up somewhat dangerous coal-fired power plants.
